Sedation
For some of the listed procedures in some cats, sedation may be required. This may seem scary for you, but it is always in your cat’s best interests. It is generally better to sedate them if they are getting upset by what we need to do, rather than manually restrain them. We will always select the safest form of sedation for your cat and will always consider any conditions they may have, such as kidney or heart disease. Oxygen can be provided, and your cat will be closely monitored throughout the procedure by our veterinary nurse or care assistant.
The Vet2Cat team is highly qualified and experienced to provide the following:
- Behavioural assessment & advice
- Environmental assessment & advice
Vet2Cat has a portable ultrasound machine for use in your own home
- Basic echocardiography (ultrasound of the heart)
- Abdominal ultrasonography
- Pregnancy confirmation
Preparing your cat for a visit
- Not all cats like visitors coming into their territory, so they might run away or hide.
- Your appointment will be scheduled within a two-hour time slot, as exact timing may vary due to traffic and the duration of prior consultations.
- Each standard consultation lasts 30 minutes; however, we kindly ask that you have your cat indoors and ready for the visit. Unfortunately, we are unable to spend this time searching for your cat. To ensure a smooth appointment, please bring your cat inside and secure all doors and windows several hours before our arrival.
- We will phone and/or text you when we are on our way, once you have heard from us, please try to contain your cat within a smaller confined area of your house, preferably with no way to escape. We are very experienced in working in unconventional places like toilets and bathrooms! If you can, please provide an empty cardboard box or igloo-style cat bed, in case your cat would like to hide in it, as we will still be able to perform a large part of the examination like this.
- If you know your cat is likely to be particularly anxious, frightened, or reactive, please let us know in advance, and if necessary, pre-visit mild sedatives can be prescribed once we have seen your cat. We can arrange a reduced cost ‘Meet and Greet’ visit, or under special circumstances, a remote video consult for this purpose.
-
Please note: the call-out fee is charged prior to the visit to secure your booking, and is non-refundable if your cat is missing upon our arrival.
